The Importance of a Guide for Your Garden

  • Avoids Hidden Hunger: Visible symptoms of nutrient deficiency indicate severe starvation. Plant health and productivity begin to deteriorate long before symptoms appear.
  • Maximizes Productivity: Properly nourished plants are more resistant to disease, drought and inclement weather. Plants require nutrients throughout all stages of growth. Periodic soil testing enables the gardener to monitor changing soil conditions.
  • Greater Economy: By determining specific soil nutrient requirements you can make more efficient use of fertilizer additions. A soil test also allows the gardener to evaluate mineral levels in the soil.

The following kits are best suited for the home gardener:-

Model B. Code 5803: A basic test kit for pH that will determine the alkaline, neutral or acidic nature of soil and whether lime or alum is required to adjust soil to the proper pH level. The color developed in the test tube is compared with a laminated color chart Model EL Code 5679: Offers accurate analysis of pH and three basic macronutrients using simplified test methods. Graduated plastic test tubes are used for measurment of the soil sample and reagent solutions. All results are compared to standards on laminated color charts.

Model EM Code 5934: Tests for pH, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. This kit is for the analyst who requires a greater number of tests on a larger sized plot of land.

LaMotte Soil Handbook: This handbook offers an excellent discussion of soils, macronutrients, micronutrients, trace nutrients, the pH preference of a wide number of plants and a glossary of soil terms and more.
