You wouldn't wear a hot pink shirt with bright orange pants unless you were headed to a Halloween party, right? Well, similarly, being careful to coordinate the colors of your plantings, hardscape elements, and house helps everything to look attractively harmonious. That's unity in action. ^ Unless you're a master of design, keep the number of elements in your plan fairly minimal — a few kinds of plants, one or two hardscape materials, and ■ fojl not too many precious geegaws. Having too many elements in one composition drives the mind to distraction, blowing unity to bits.
