Action ► Sedative.

The overground parts of the grass gave alkaloids—loline and perloline. The caryopses of the plant contain volatile alkaloids—N-acetylloline, N-formylloline and N-acetylnorloline.

Loline dihydrochloride did not show CNS toxicity.
