The root bark contains monoter-penoids, pinnatal, isopinnatal and iso-kigelinol napthoquinones.
The fruit gave a cytostatic compound.
In Africa, the root bark is used in the treatment of venereal diseases, haemorrhoids and rheumatism; also as a vermifuge.
