Bring the kids along to the local nursery or hardware store to pick out a bird bath, and discuss the merits of size and style. Get the kids involved in picking out a good spot in the yard — in the open but not far from sheltering shrubs or trees so skittish birds can get to safety if need be. Kids can have fun spying on the birdbath from the house or across the yard. The birds may be slow to discover and use the bath, but after they do, their antics can provide hours of entertainment.
Pick up a book on bird species so your kids can have fun identifying the various types of birds that visit the bath.
