Steady As She Goes

At this time of year, plants under cover can easily be exposed to an air temperature of 35C (95F) during the day and 4C (40F) at night. This can be disastrous for plants in small pots. Ventilation is all important. Try to aim for a steady 20-25C (68-77F) during the day, and cushion low night-time temperatures by adding extra layers of covering.

Correct watering is also important. If pots really dry out, stand them in a bucket of water for I0-20min, so that moisture reaches the lower roots. Pushing a finger down the side of a pot will reveal how dry the compost is.
