Data Base

A complete, documented chemical survey of the literature for the plant families treated in the present Volume is a gigantic task, incompatible with the space alloted in a general treatise. For this reason, although the initial list comprised compounds reported in Chemical Abstracts and other more specialized reference works (Hegnauer 1964-1990; Dev 19821986; Harborne 1988; Rowe 1989; Southon and Buckingham 1989; Hill et al. 1991), these were initially classified into types by biosynthetic criteria. Symbols assigned to these types were collated in Tables 2-10.
