Procedure for Exercise A

  1. Your instructor will have a variety of herbs and spiccs available in lab. Although you may be familiar with many of these items in powdered form, what is available in the lab is the whole spice or herb. As a result, you may not recognize diem right away.
  2. Crush a small portion of each herb or spice to smell the aroma. For some of die larger herbs or spices, your instructor may provide die crushed (or powdered) form along with the whole product. Your instructor will indicate whether tasting is allowed.
  3. For each of the spices available, record the name of ihe herb or spice and the pan of the plant it comes from in table 1 on worksheet 14-1 at the end of this laboratory topic.
